If you are a night life lover, Budapest will definitely keep you busy. The Hungarian capital is considered one of the most entertaining cities in Europe, offering plenty of choices for every kind of entertainment: from bars to clubs, popular pubs and fancy lounge bars.

Nightlife districts

At night the streets of Budapest are filled with young people moving from clubs to clubs. The main areas full of hustle and bustle are Liszt Ferenc Square and Raday Utca.

Liszt Ferenc Square offers numerous outdoor bars, restaurants, and cafes where one can grab a drink or something to eat sitting outside. Just to give you an example, you can try the oriental cuisine of Karma restaurant, characterized by its middle eastern decorations, or the high-hand restaurant Menza Etterem.

Raday utca is known as the Soho of Budapest. This central area, located near Fovam Ter and the Danube river, is full of cafes, outdoor bars and wine bars where to taste some Hungarian wines. It is a very popular area thanks to its lively and informal vibe.

In addiction to these two places, the area around St.Stephens’ Basilica is worth a mention: here there are a number of pubs, restaurants, and night clubs. Baross Utca is a very popular district among the LGBT community.

Pubs

If you are a pub and beer lover, you can’t miss the chance to visit the famous ruin pubs of Budapest, that is to say pubs that are located inside some very decadent buildings. Characterized by large spaces and excellent beers, these pubs are animated by live bands performing onsite. It is not easy to spot them from outside as they often don’t have a sign, therefore you need to know their address and location.

In the VII district there are Octogon, Blaha Lujza and Astoria, where you can find the best ruin pubs in town. The most famous one is Szimpla Kert, located in Kazinczy Street, 14.  You can also head to Nagymezo Street, located in the VI district.

A list of some of the most interesting pubs of the city.

Parties and cultural events

One of the latest trend is throwing night parties inside some of the most famous thermal baths. In this case thermal baths are open on Saturdays from 10pm t0 3am.

A more sophisticated kind of entertainment, especially loved by an adult audience, is the wide offer of theater shows available around the city. Budapest, along with Paris and Vienna, is a popular destination for operetta and musical lovers. The Operetta Theater is located in the VI district in Nagymezo 17.

Gay Bars in Budapest

Budapest is a very gay-friendly city, thanks to its numerous clubs, bars and gays services, which are discrete and safe.

Most of the thermal baths in Budapest feature saunas and massage rooms for gay customers. However, thermal baths do not have cruising areas and do not allow public sex. Among the most popular baths there are Király, Rudas, Magnum Sauna & Gym, Sauna 69 and the Gay Massage Studio.

In addiction, Budapest offers some gay hotels.

Gay Bar, Pub, and Clubs

Scams in the nightclubs

It is also important to mention that some clubs don’t prefer tourists and they often try to fool them by offering free entrance to clubs without the requirement of purchasing a drink. However, once customers leave the club they may find themselves forced to purchase drinks at very expensive prices.

You should avoid clubs located in Vaci Utca; during the day it is the post exclusive shopping street of the city, but at nighttime it turns into a real tourist trap, especially when there are hot girls inviting young guys to come into clubs. The risk to be blackmailed or racketed becomes very high.
