Just where the Danube widens beyond the channel that used to be known as the Roman limes, stands the historical city of Visegrad, dominated by the Medieval citadel mountains. The view from up there is simply breathtaking. At the foot of the mountain lies the famous Royal Palace, built by King Charles I of Hungary in the 14th century according to the Renaissance style. The palace is characterized by a fountain from which, according to the legend, used to flow wine. The two Roman towers nearby follow the Danube river.
Near Visegrad there are the Lepence baths, with a temperature of 39 degrees. Around the area there are many hotels with therapeutical pools. During summer time the palace garden hosts several events, parties, and renaissance competitions.
Videgrad is located about 40 kilometers from Budapest and it can be reached by bus as well as by ferry during summer months.
