Esztergom was the first capital of Hungary as well as the millennial site of the primate cardinal of Hungary, that is to say the prelate in charge of the Catholic Church within the country. Among its monuments there is the largest church in Hungary and the Renaissance chapel of Bakocz.

By visiting the Basilica it is possible to admire its majestic ecclesiastical collection. The Royal Medieval Palace, which was rebuilt after its destruction, is located on the Forth Mountain, while the Primate’s Palace hosts the Christian Museum.

On the Esztergom shore there is the Aquasziget Aquapark, featuring a wellness center with pools, gejser, and caves with healing waters.

Esztergom is located about 50 kilometers from Budapest, and it can be reached by bus or train.

The Via Imperialis, between Esztergom and Szekesfehervar

The cities of Esztergom and Szekesfehervar, where the kings of Hungary were crowned, are connected through the Via Imperialis. This ancient road passes through the Zsambek basin, on the northwest side of Budapest, and it is full of villages, hidden treasures, and natural parks.
